MTB safety: would you know where you are in case of an emergency?

A fall, a serious breakdown, or an accident can happen on any mountain bike ride. In mountainous areas, one of the main challenges is accurately explaining your location when you need help.
In an emergency, call 112 first.
The first thing to do is call 112 and follow the operator's instructions. Emergency services can use the location information associated with the call to help determine your whereabouts.
Don't delay the call trying to find the perfect location. Explain what happened, stay calm, and answer the operator's questions.
Learn how to check your GPS coordinates
Knowing how to check coordinates from your mobile phone can be especially useful when you are in a mountainous area without clear landmarks.
In Google Maps, open the app, tap the location button, and press and hold the exact spot on the map to place a marker. The coordinates will appear on the screen, and you can copy or share them.
If the 112 operator asks for them, provide the coordinates along with any useful references to the surroundings: route name, trail, summit, crossing, stream, nearby road or kilometer point.
Before setting out on the road
Make sure your mobile phone has enough battery.
Make sure location services are enabled.
Learn beforehand how to check and share your coordinates.
If you are going out alone, inform someone of your planned route and approximate return time.
Bring water, some food, and a small first-aid kit.
Keep in mind that the European emergency number is 112.
Remember
In case of emergency, call 112, explain what has happened, and follow the operator's instructions. Checking the coordinates can be helpful, but should never delay the call.
Ride safely. A little preparation before you set off can make a big difference when things get complicated.
