The greeting that surprised him

I went out alone today.
I don't always need my bike—sometimes you just need to ride alone to think. And it was precisely on one of those rides that something happened that's been on my mind.
I came across a rider stopped on the road. I greeted him and asked if everything was alright. The usual, what I was taught. A little while later we ran into each other again at a cattle gate and he said something I wasn't expecting: he was surprised that I'd greeted him.
And that's where I've been thinking. Has saying hello become so strange? Because I see it here too, in the app groups: it's hard to break the ice. I want to think it's shyness. But it doesn't cost anything. A simple "How are you?" and that's it. If the conversation doesn't develop, you just say goodbye and everyone goes their separate ways, no more.
The thing is, I didn't know José—that's the name of my new cycling buddy—at all. And with a simple greeting, we exchanged a few words and went our separate ways. Nothing out of the ordinary. But that's exactly what we do this for: to connect people who, otherwise, would have passed each other without a second glance.
I've told him about Bicicita. I hope to see him around here soon and organize a ride with other like-minded people.
So this is for you: the next time you pass someone—on a path, on the road, or in a group of bikes—say hello. It costs nothing.
(And speaking of cattle gates: if you find it closed, leave it closed. Just like it was. 🚧)
By the way, if this has resonated with you and you're ready to take the plunge: creating a date on Bicicita is easier than ever. Be the first to suggest a ride and get others to join in 👇 https://bicicita.com/es/posts/crear-una-cita-en-bicicita-ahora-es-aun-mas-facil
